There is a lot of cool features related with rear view mirrors:
- alarm system
- integrated universal remote control
- interior/outside mirror auto dip
- digital compass
- rain sensor
- high beam assistant
Here, I'm retrofitting rear view mirror with autodip function. It is a must if you retrofit outside mirror with auto dip because they use sensor from interior mirror.
FZD is the module which evaluates data from interior rear view mirror (data from mirror is converted and transmitted to FRM via K-CAM, FRM dips the ouside mirrors.
Here is the part list you'll need:
- electrochromatic rearview mirror
- connector X14292
- wire and 11 bushing contacts 0005197
- flat connector (ground)
The cable is quite short and you will need five wires that leads to the FZD. Sixth wire from the mirror is going to the ground point X10012 (left hand drive):
I've been using bushing contacts from junkyard so, as you can see, there is a soldering point on the cable. The pins that are
Bushing contacts is numbered as 0005197. You will need six (6) for the X14292 connector and five (5) for the X14288 connector at the FZD:
For the ground connection we should route the wire to the X10012 junction point located at the passenger side:

Coding
As for the coding, everything you need to do is to make FZD aware of EC rear view mirror by changing the following option in FZD module:EC_SPIEGEL
